If you have a question about using the website, ask here

Please post any questions/issues here.  I'll try to answer as quickly as possible.

At the top of your browser window, under the logo, you'll see several links.

If you click "home", you'll be taken to the trustintelligence.com website which is still under development.

Clicking "Index" will take you to the front page of the forums.  Under profile you can add an avatar, signature file, and various other settings.

If you don't like the colors/look of the board right now, you can click on Profile and then Display and choose from several different styles.  I'm partial to the Novin one myself.

There is also a link to the TI Archives, which is just the old board locked to new posts.

Other help can be found by clicking "Help" and if you want to use smilies, all the codes can be found by clicking the "Smilies" link.  big_smile

Anyway, I hope you like the new board.

Please give the search feature a try when we have enough content to search through and let me know your thoughts.  There may or may not be a good modification written for this, but I think you'll find the searching on punbb to be superior.

Re: If you have a question about using the website, ask here

Is there anyway to get a section to show it's been read when you go back to the index? This used to happen automatically on the old site. I'm sure it would here, too, if I could only figure out how.  Or do I have to click on 'mark all read' before I leave a topic?

Otherwise, I keep clicking back on the little yellow suckers and going back to a topic I've already read. :sadbanana:

Re: If you have a question about using the website, ask here

On this software, it doesn't go by what you "read".  It goes by what is new since your last visit.  A good work around is to click on "show new posts since last visit" or to mark them all as read.

How do I get rid of the smilies?

Click on Profile > Display and you can turn them off.

I still see them in posts and taking up a lot of space at the bottom of the page.  (I've always hated smilies).

In all seriousness, I can think of a few ways we can get rid of smilies just for you.  What type of browser are you using?

I'm not familiar with Maxthon2, but I know with Firefox you can right click on an image and block all images from trustintelligence.com.  You can also install adblock or RIP and remove the images one at a time.

Re: If you have a question about using the website, ask here

Maxthon is a (free) high-powered tabbed browser that leaves Internet Exploder and Firefox in the dust.

I have now blocked the most egrarious of the images on this page, but some are called by js, so I'll kill then one by one as encountered, if I can.

I don't want to kill all images from this site.

Just downloaded/installed it - very nice and fast browser.  I'll play with it some more.

You'll love it, assuming you get by the somewhat steep initial learning curve.

It is actually much easier than FF, tho, since all the power user customizations and features are already there and turned on.

I have wasted a lot of time with FF, only to find I had to start over.  Not with maxthon2.

Re: If you have a question about using the website, ask here

FWIW, I think I managed to kill the smilies completely.  At first I couldn't because most are called by js.

So, I turned off smilies in my profile, but then posts were cluttered by things like ":canada, :grin, :thumbsup", etc.

Then I turned them back on and used Ad Hunter in Maxton to kill the entire smilies directory.  It took several tries, but they now seem to be completely gone in the posts and in the message composition area where they took up a lot of real estate.

Of course, should I ever want to usde a smilie in my posts, I can do it the old fashioned way. :evil

FWIW
:thumbsup

Re: If you have a question about using the website, ask here

Is there a way to get a page to display messages in "newest first" order, instead of the current "oldest first"?

First, if you click on the last post date (on the right side of the display), you go right to the newest post and you can scroll up if you like.

You can also subscribe to topics and (in the privacy section of your personal profile), have the site send you the complete new post.

If you are registered, you can post.
You can also upload files.

But to upload a file, you need to click on the link to get a full posting form (Post Reply), not just use the "quick" abbreviated form that is at the bottom of every thread.

There is an upload box at the bottom of the posting blank space. You can browse through your files and select the one to upload. If it is not too large it will be successful but take a bit longer to complete the post than if you hadn't unloading anything.
